Hello, everyone!

Just before our new kit arrives into the UK, I thought I’d sneak in another layout or two created with this month’s ‘Carefree’ Kit.  As you can probably see, I now have a slight obsession with ‘lollipop flowers’ and decided to give them another go on on the layout above.

One of our subscribers asked about how I plan my journaling and so I thought I’d share this information here too.  I usually have a rough idea of how a layout is going to look before I make a start and so I size and manipulate the text box to the correct size and location first of all.  In this case, I kind of wanted the journaling to look like the soil beneath the flowers (squint your eyes and use your imagination and you might just be able to see that vision!).  Once the journaling is all printed out, then the layout tends to come together around it.  I know, probably upside down – but works for me!

Those lollipop flowers are made using various sized circle punches with the ‘grass’ created from left over circles with the bottoms trimmed off.  I used variegated thread from this month’s Mixed Media Bundle to create the stems and leaves, but you could just as easily draw these in place.

Fancy Pants ephemera and puffy stickers from the Documenting Bundle add a little bit of quirkiness to the top right corner and you’ll notice that I also added a few splashes of Heidi Swapp Color Shine in Navy and Ocean to mimic the sky.

For the border, I tore four strips of narrowing widths and adhered flush with the left hand edge.  I didn’t think too hard about this at all – the tearing seemed to naturally reveal and hide the different layers for a textured effect.  A tiny bit of stitching finished the bottom corner off, again using this month’s Mixed Media Bundle.  Warning – it’s VERY hard to poke your pokey tool and needle through 5 layers of paper.  I have the sore fingers to prove it!

IF YOU’D LIKE TO TAKE SOME INSPIRATION AWAY, WHY NOT TRY:

  • Tearing different widths of patterned paper to create a layered border;
  • Writing or typing your journaling directly onto the background first, then creating your layout around it;
  • Using circle punches to create lollipop flowers.
