Have you ever sifted through papers for what feels like hours, trying to choose the perfect design to use as a background?  Have you then procrastinated that little bit further before giving in to the white cardstock in desperation?  Well, procrastinate no more as today we’re sharing a layout made with every crafters friend: kraft cardstock.  Kraft is the crafters version of the ‘little black dress’ – it goes with everything, always looks super smart and can be pulled out of the cupboard time and time again. It’s also perfect for those times when you feel like scraplifting your favourite scrapbooker – in this case the amazing Janine Langer.

For the layout you see above and below, we used two sheets of kraft: one as the background and another as a large mat for the layout itself.  Before adhering the large mat, we ran it through the printer to add some journaling and then proceeded to add the large multi-coloured strip across the top of the layout.  This, together with the pale yellow strip and rectangle of vellum, formed the basis for further layering and embellishment.

The larger photograph sits next to a floral tag from the Maggie Holmes Shine Ephemera pack, an add on available this month.  Adhered to this is a smaller, square photograph and a flair badge taken from the ‘This Way’ collection by Evalicious.  The Puffy Alphas in woodgrain are also from Evalicious and the perfect size for an 8.5×11″ layout (or Project Life!).

Finally, we added two of the leaf die cuts from the Ephemera pack, adhering at the bottom only and then intertwining a little for added dimension.  A few splashes of Heidi Swapp Colour Shine Mist in Black Velvet finish the layout off as well as a couple of enamel dots from Gossamer Blue.

This was one of those layouts that seemed to come together in the blink of an eye – possibly because you just couldn’t seem to go wrong with the kraft as the background colour!

IF YOU’D LIKE TO TAKE SOME INSPIRATION AWAY, WHY NOT TRY:

  • Using kraft cardstock as your base
  • Journaling directly onto your background paper
  • Scrapping two different sized photographs.
